The Coach

Kwek Chiew Peng was a professional badminton player who had a glorious career as a Malaysian national player during the 70’s and the 80’s. Born and bred in Muar, Johor, Kwek was reknowned for his speed and agility during his successful career. He moved to Negeri Sembilan shortly after joining the Malaysian national squad and consecutively won the Negeri Sembilan title for 7 years.
Kwek was an active player for the national squad during his career. He represented Malaysia in many international tournament including the SEA Games, Asian Games, and also The Thomas Cup (badminton’s world cup). Kwek represented Malaysia as a double player during the 1976 Bangkok Thomas Cup and eventually won a silver medal. alongside ex national players such as James Selvaraj, Dominic Soong, and Saw Swee Leong.


Over the years, Kwek have managed to beat reknowend world class players. Among the casualties are current Malaysian head coach, Misbun SidekĀ and ex head coach, Morten Frost. Kwek and his partner managed to beat Morten Frost and Steven Fladberg during one of the international friendly games in the 1976.


Coach Kwek, turning 56 this year, is still very active in the game. Setting up the badminton academy this year proves that he is still very in love with the game. With his experiences and qualifications, training sessions are bound to be interesting and most importantly, effective.
